The story behind this salad is the our son got an executive chef job at a fraternity and someone suggested to make this salad. I knew what the salad was because I made it high school. My husband and sons never heard of it.
Then someone at our work Thanksgiving potluck brought a strawberry pretzel salad! I took a picture and asked AI for a recipe!
Here's a recipe for **Strawberry Pretzel Salad**:
Ingredients:
- **Pretzel Crust**:
- 2 cups crushed pretzels
- 3/4 cup melted butter
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- **Cream Cheese Layer**:
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (such as Cool Whip)
- **Strawberry Layer**:
- 2 (3 oz) packages strawberry gelatin (Jell-O)
- 2 cups boiling water
- 2 cups cold water
- 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries (or thawed frozen strawberries)
### Instructions:
1. **Pretzel Crust**: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a medium bowl, mix the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and sugar. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake for 10 minutes, then let it cool completely.
2. **Cream Cheese Layer**: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Fold in the whipped topping. Spread this mixture over the cooled pretzel crust, sealing the edges to prevent the gelatin layer from seeping through.
3. **Strawberry Layer**: In another bowl, dissolve the strawberry gelatin in 2 cups of boiling water. Stir in 2 cups of cold water. Refrigerate until the gelatin is partially set, about 1.5 hours. Stir the sliced strawberries into the partially set gelatin, then pour over the cream cheese layer.
4. **Chill**: Refrigerate the dessert until the gelatin is fully set, at least 2 hours.
5. **Serve**: Cut into squares and serve chilled.
