I have been wanting to made home made laundry soap for a while since I have first seen it months ago in blog land. I finally got around to make up a double batch this morning. So the recipe calls for:
2 cups Borax
2 cups washing baking soda
1 bar mild soap (like Ivory, but I used Dial Basics)
Finely grate the bar of soap, add remaining ingredients, mix well. You only need I tablespoon per normal load of wash. I own a scoop that is 1 1/2 tablespoon that I am using. I have already done a load of wash already and I thing this is going to work out. The hardest part was grating the soap, it probably would of been easier if I used my food processor. It cost me about $7 to buy the stuff I need and I figure I have enough to make 4 batches. We will have see how long it will be before I need to buy more the ingredients. My husband is concerned that this is going to get abused, It shouldn't if we stick to the one tablespoon per load.

I've made the liquid but I've been wanting to try the dry version...Seems a lot easier to make. You've inspired me!

ReplyDeleteI was going to use your recipe, but then I had to buy a new washer which is a HIGH EFFICIENCY washer. Do you know if this homemade detergent can be used in high efficiency washers?
ReplyDeleteI use it with an HE top-loader -- for six months now -- and haven't had any problems.
ReplyDeleteI like the dry version - might have to try this - I wash LOTS of clothes and we have HARD deep well water here in the country. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
