1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
2 3/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup chopped nuts - I did not have chopped nuts. I added a bag of peanut butter M&Ms
Blend in shortening, brown sugar, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla. add in remaining ingredients. Drop by round teaspoonfuls and bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes until done.
This vintage recipe appears in Betty Crocker's cookie book from 1963. My mom has this book. I enjoyed going through the recipes in this book. Ethel's sugar cookies and toffee squares are favorite out of this book. When the reproduction of this book came out in about 2002, I had to get a copy of my own.
Fun idea!

ReplyDeleteThis was a Christmas standard in my house all my growing up years - our recipe is a little different, passed down from my great grandmother. I don't think I've ever met someone familiar with Jubilee Jumbles before now.
ReplyDeleteI have a reprint of the original Betty Crocker cookbook, originally published in 1950. When I'm looking for something frugal, that I can make with cupboard staples, this is the book I go to first.
Thanks for sharign!
I love the sour cream in the cookie dough. I bet it makes them lighter.
